Housing Resources
San Mateo County Department of Housing (DOH): Consists of two divisions - Housing & Community Development (First-Time Home Buyers, Housing Rehab, Community Development, etc.) and the Housing Authority (Section 8/Rental Assistance, Moving To Work, Shelter Plus Care, Family Self-Sufficiency, Public Housing, etc.
Housing & Community Development (HCD):
HIP Housing: Programs include Home Sharing (helps match persons in need of housing with those who have a place to share), Self-Sufficiency (housing and supportive services to low-income families transitioning to self-reliance) and Property Management (acquires and rehabilitates existing housing to expand the pools of affordable housing).
Housing Endowment and Regional Trust of San Mateo County (HEART): A public/private partnership among the cities, the County, and the business, non-profit, education and labor communities to create more affordable housing opportunities in San Mateo County.
Housing Leadership Council (HLC): Coordinates a variety of programs and activities (Affordable Housing Week, Housing Leadership Day, Community Builders Program, etc.) that work to shape policy, change perceptions, and support best practices toward more sustainable, more affordable homes in San Mateo County.
Housing California: Mission is to prevent homelessness and increase the supply of decent, safe, accessible and permanently affordable homes for homeless low-income Californians.
California Department of Housing and Community Development (State HCD): Provides leadership, policies and programs to preserve and expand safe and affordable housing opportunities and promote strong communities for all Californians.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD): Mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all.
